Central AL Forecast: Sunshine Returns For Tuesday

Sunshine & blue sky have made a solid comeback in Central Alabama this afternoon!  We started off the day CHILLY this morning…the official low at the Birmingham airport was 42°.  An area of high pressure is currently centered over Alabama, keeping the sky clear and temperatures mild.  Highs today will reach the low to mid 70s, and overnight tonight the sky will stay mainly clear.  Temperatures will slip into the 50s by 10 PM tonight, and by sunrise tomorrow morning we should be hovering in the upper 40s/low 50s.

Temperatures will be trending upward slowly over the next couple of days while the weather overall stays quiet…tomorrow we move up to the upper 70s with mostly sunny skies.  For Wednesday, partly cloudy and a tad warm in the afternoon.  Highs in the upper 70s, lows in the mid 50s.

Thursday is when we’re monitoring our next chance for severe weather.  Right now, the timing appears to be comparable to what we had this weekend…scattered showers during the day, then an overnight event of storms.  It should begin after sunset Thursday night in West Alabama and end around sunrise Friday morning in East Alabama.

Because model guidance is limited ~3 & a half days out from a possible event, details such as intensity and exact locations are limited as well.  For now, we know just as we did before this weekend’s event that on a large-scale, the ingredients are there for storms.

By lunchtime Friday afternoon, the storms will be out of our hair and temperatures will cool back down again.  Highs Friday afternoon should only be in the 60s…lows Saturday morning in the 40s.  There could be a few lingering sprinkles during the day Saturday on the backside of the storm system, but that’s about it…nothing too crazy.  Sunday should be gorgeous with highs in the upper 70s.
