RIGHT NOW: It’s hot, sunny & humid in most of Alabama this afternoon. However, a few towns farther South of Birmingham are seeing quick summer storms pass through as they track East. A few are producing intermittent lightning strikes and locally heavy rain, but we’re not concerned with any of these storms turning severe this afternoon. Heat indices are in the mid & upper 90s right now across West Alabama…make sure you’re staying cool!
TONIGHT: We’re keeping an eye on the possibility of a line of strong storms after midnight this evening. Because they’ll be developing well after sunset, the odds of these storms turning severe is LOW. But, should they turn severe, damaging wind gusts on the order of 40 to 50 mph are possible with these storms.
Regardless, moderate to heavy rain, gusty winds, & a few rumbles of thunder may wake you up early Thursday morning from 12 AM to 3 AM. Overnight lows expected in the low 70s.
TOMORROW: The afternoon rain coverage should be more sparse tomorrow. Most of us will just see sunshine & fair weather clouds, along with the summer heat & humidity. Highs tomorrow in the low 90s, peak heat index expected in the upper 90s, afternoon rain chance at 30%.
FRIDAY-SUNDAY: The forecast for Friday all the way to the end of the weekend is consistent. Afternoon rain chances are below 20%, meaning the vast majority of us should stay rain-free through the weekend. Only isolated summer showers are possible.
It will be HOT this weekend if you have outdoor plans. Highs will easily reach the mid 90s, meaning the heat index could hit the 100s. Stay cool! Lows in the mid 70s as well, so not much cooler overnight.
NEXT WEEK: Not much changes in the summer forecast for next week…pretty standard late-June weather with highs in the 90s, lows in the 70s, afternoon rain chances hovering near 30%.
