FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) — A Fairfield man is dead after he was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon. 

56-year-old Jerry Deon Gardner was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the roadway on I-59 South at mile marker 118, struck a tree and caught fire at 1:15 p.m.

Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:28 p.m.

Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
