Tracking the Tropics: Hurricane Isaias Moves Inland

Tracking the Tropics

Radar and reports from Air Force Reserve Hurricane hunter aircraft indicate that Isaias re-intensified to a Hurricane, despite a less than impressive appearance in the the satellite imagery. Surface winds are 85 mph.

The hurricane is moving at a faster forward speed of round 22 mph. This is bringing the center of circulation on shore currently near the South Carolina/North Carolina state line. The track carries th storm next to Richmond, then up to New York and southeastern Canada by early Wednesday.

Interaction with a strong jet stream suggests that Isasias should weaken more slowly than normal as it moves through the Eastern United States, and this should produce very strong wind gusts along the mid-Atlantic coast tomorrow. As a result, the gust factors have increases.
