TOPEKA (KSNT) — More than 41 million trick-or-treaters will be out roaming their neighborhoods Saturday night, many without a parent in sight.

“My sisters at that age where she’s like preteen, so she wants to go off by herself,” says Tanya Ortiz.

To make sure your little monster says safe social media has come to the rescue.

Parents can keep tabs on their kids by downloading the free mobile app ‘Track or Treat.’

“I do have [some] children that I might not have trusted as explicitly, and probably would have liked something like that,” said Holly Kennedy.

Download the app to your phone and your kid’s, open it, then enter your phone number or email address into their phone and it links the too so you can track them.

“I don’t see a huge problem with it, its fine,” says teenager Haykey Woodyard. “You know you just have to be where you say you are going to be, and you’re not going to have any problems.”

“I think parents should have more trust for their kids, especially on a night like Halloween where kids just want to have fun,” says Laura Knight.

Another app, Nextdoor’s ‘treat map’ is making it easier for kids to hit up the houses with candy.

You no longer have to rely on porch lights to enter this haunted house, just look for the houses with a candy corn.

“If there are parents out there that are helping their kids plan their trick-or-treating routes they can know exactly where their kids are because they can plan it ahead of time, and have their apps on their phones with them as they go,” said Jen Burke, Communications Manager for Nextdoor.

So parents there’s no need to worry. These apps make it simple to keep track of your little goblins and give you a peace of mind while they are having a fang-tastic night.

There are several other smart-phone apps that can provide parents some reassurance this Halloween. Just go with the one that best suits you.
