LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (WIAT) — Police officers never know what they will face when responding to a call.

When an officer responded to an anonymous call in Long Island Tuesday, he was surprised to come face to face with a baby crocodile.

The reptile had been abandoned in a box. The crocodile was about three feet long and under 10 pounds, but it still took an animal control supervisor 10 minutes to fully restrain it.

Police said this was the first crocodile ever recovered on Long Island.
