UPDATE: Identity of woman killed at Hoover apartment complex

Hoover Police conducting a homicide investigation on February 14, 2020. A woman was found shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex at The Park at Wakefield and Wellington.

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) – Authorities have released the identity of the woman who was found shot to death at an apartment complex Friday night.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as 41-year-old Shemethia Coteat of Hoover.

Hoover Police say they were called to The Park at Wakefield and Wellington apartment complex at 6:53 P.M. Friday night. That is where they found Coteat shot to death in the parking lot.

The autopsy report revealed that Coteat was shot four times from behind while retrieving something from her vehicle.

Medics with Hoover Fire Department pronounced her woman dead at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators that they heard at least three gunshots, then saw a dark-colored 4-door sedan speeding off.

Right now, detectives are trying to determine the motive behind the shooting, and find the shooter.
