LOS ANGELES, CA – (CBS & WIAT) – A hotel employee is behind bars after attempting to conduct a mass shooting at a Marriott.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the man showed up at the hotel Monday planning to shoot up the entire hotel, including guests, and employees.

Police say clues and evidence from employees and management at the Marriott led to the arrest of the employee. Hotel management says the employee, who was the cook at the Marriott, was upset about a recent incident with HR. He then told a fellow employee about his mass shooting plan. Then the employee who received the information informed management who in turn contacted police.

The employee has been identified as 37-year-old, Rodolfo Montoya.

Police say soon after the information from employees and managers was brought to their attention, Montoya was arrested in Long Beach at his home.

During his arrest police retrieved several guns and a lot of ammunition. According to police preliminary research does not appear that the employee has a criminal history or anything that would prohibit him from possessing the firearms.

Montoya has a 500,000 bond and is currently still in jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
