TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A man known for his love of the Alabama Crimson Tide has passed away.

Crimson Tide superfan Walt Gary, a Tuscaloosa man who had Down Syndrome, was 36 years old. He gained recognition from his frequent visits with the football team.

Gary would meet Nick Saban and the team each Thursday of game week and give his written prediction of the score for Saturday. Saban would keep that score in his pocket every Thursday during his radio show.

“The Thursday night radio show won’t be the same without hearing his game prediction and seeing his infectious personality,” Saban said in a statement. “Walt will be truly missed.”

Current and former Crimson Tide football players, along with school officials, tweeted in response to Gary’s passing, sharing photos and memories.
