16-year-old charged with making bomb threat at Gardendale High School

UPDATE (12:45 p.m.): Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a 16-year-old male for making a bomb threat to Gardendale High School.  Investigators were able to identify the caller, locate him and take him into custody. The child has been transported to Juvenile Detention where he will be charged with making terrorist threats.

GARDENDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: Gardendale High School resumed regular operations at 10:30 a.m. The area is ALL CLEAR and SAFE.

The following is from the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office:

On Thursday, Aug.t 5, 2019 at approximately 5 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office was notified that a threat was made to bomb Gardendale High School.  Deputies from the school resource division responded with the Sheriff’s K-9 unit and checked the entire school. 

Sheriff’s Deputies, Gardendale police and school administrators are working together to make sure that the school is safe for students.  The start of school has been delayed until 10:30 a.m.  Additional school resource officers will be on campus for the rest of the day.  The investigation into this threat is ongoing.

The following is from the office of Jefferson County Schools:

Due to an anonymous threat, Gardendale High School has been delayed today, September 5th, until 10:30 a.m. The students that were already on campus are being housed in the Bragg Middle School gym. Law enforcement is on the scene ensuring the safety of all students and staff. Communication will be provided when the building inspection is complete and deemed safe by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirms they are assisting Gardendale Police on a bomb threat at Gardendale High School. Class has been delayed until 10:30 a.m.

The call came into Gardendale Police earlier this morning.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies will be present throughout the day at the school.

A Gardendale business also received a threat.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is working to find out who made the threat.
