BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Fire Department will be closing one of their stations Tuesday until further notice.
Fire Station 27 will be closed until an assessment of the station is completed. The assessment is to ensure the safety of the firefighters and other employees of the station.
The assessment comes after a local attorney representing firefighters said they found asbestos and mold in the station.
Station 27 is located at 401 Huffman Road. To ensure coverage of the area, a contingency plan has been implemented to distribute crews and other equipment to the community.
No word has been released on when the assessment is believed to be completed.
