BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Alabama has been ranked as the 2nd worst state to have a baby.
That’s according to consumer survey company Wallethub.
The report cites Alabama’s high infant mortality rate, low number of pediatricians, and bad parental leave policies as reasons for the ranking.
The company considered dozens of other factors, including child-raising costs and hospital delivery charges.
Vermont was ranked as the best state to have a baby.
The only state ranked lower than Alabama was Mississippi.
