Alabama drug trafficker arrested, makeshift nightclub raided

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Walker County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) have arrested a local drug trafficker who was distributing in both Walker and Jefferson County.

According to authorities, Christopher Eugene Babbs, 56, was arrested in his home on Church street Wednesday night. Babbs’ residence was essentially a makeshift nightclub, complete with a stripper pole, big screen TVs mood lighting and mirrored walls.

Upon arrival at the residence, authorities observed drugs and firearms in plain sight. Authorities seized: 5.89 grams of heroin in 23 individual bags, 28.81 grams of crack cocaine, 25.4 grams of meth, one quarter-gram of powdered cocaine, 3.6 grams of marijuana, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a Rossie .38 revolver and drug smoking pipes. 

Babbs is charged with trafficking heroin/fentanyl, cocaine, possessing a firearm as a felon, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Babbs is a five-time convicted felon in both Florida and Alabama. He is currently being held in the Walker County Jail.

CBS 42’s, Cory McGinnis spoke with Babbs neighbor who says she’s not surprised. “I wasn’t shocked. Anytime you are dealing with drugs, using them, or partaking in any kind of way, it leads to nothing but imprisonment,” says Doris Gardner.
