12 boating accidents, 6 fatalities reported over July 4th weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Marine Patrol Division says they responded to 12 boating accidents that resulted in six fatalities over the July 4th holiday.

Captain Matt Brooks says over 20 injuries were reported between Thursday and Friday.

The accidents took place across the state at various lakes, rivers and creeks.

ALEA Marine Patrol reminds boaters to be cautious of other boaters on the waterways, to stay alert, and not to drink and drive.
