TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A petition to bring Deontay Wilder’s future matches to Tuscaloosa is picking up steam. The heavy weight champion of the world recently defended his title again in Birmingham.

Supporters of the Bronze Bomber are petitioning University of Alabama President Dr. Stuart Bell to let Wilder fight on campus at Coleman Coliseum. Tuscaloosa is Wilder’s hometown.

The effort is being called “Support Our Champ and Support Wilder”. His trainer, Jay Deas, tells CBS 42 it’s a good feeling knowing the champ has so much support, but now it’s all up to the university.

There are currently 1,750 signatures, but the group needs 750 more to reach their goal.
