BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UAB) — This weekend, the UAB men’s soccer team returns home to BBVA Field for the Soccer for a Cure Classic.
The tournament will feature UAB, Memphis, Mercer and Milwaukee with games on Friday and again on Sunday.
The tournament begins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday when Memphis takes on Milwaukee. Following that game, UAB will kick off their home opener against Mercer at 7 p.m. Friday night.
UAB looks to rebound after two tough road losses last weekend in Wisconsin. The Blazers will be without leading goal scorer Grayson Dupont and defender Guillermo Rodriguez who are forced to sit after drawing red cards in their previous matchup against Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, Mercer is coming in hot with two straight wins to open their season. Four different players have scored goals for the Bears in two games this season. Sophomore forward Trevor Martineau sits at the top of the stats sheet with four points on the season tallying one goal and two assists.
On Sunday, the Blazers are back at noon against Milwaukee. The Panthers are coming off a 2-0 start to the season after defeating both Western Illinois and Drake. Forward Alex Sykes leads the scoring for Milwaukee with five points off two goals and one assist in two games so far. The Panthers’ offense comes into the weekend with five goals on the season.
The first 200 fans to the Friday game will receive collectible color changing UAB soccer cups. Tickets purchased for Friday will provide access to all of Friday’s games and tickets purchased for Sunday will give you access to all of Sunday’s games, including the women’s soccer game Sunday night.
Men’s soccer season tickets are on sale by purchasing the 2019-20 Gold Card for $65. The Gold Card is an exclusive offer that grants you admission into all UAB men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball, baseball and softball events for the upcoming academic year.
