BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UAB ATHLETICS) -- The defending Conference USA champion UAB football team has announced its complete 2019 schedule which features six home games and a late season contest at Tennessee.
As it did to begin the 2018 campaign, UAB will open the season on a Thursday night when the Blazers host Alabama State on August 29 at Legion Field. UAB enters the 2019 season with a perfect 12-0 mark at home since its return, the fifth longest active home winning streak in the nation.
For a third-consecutive season, UAB hits the road in Week 2 for its inaugural contest with Akron on Sept. 7. This is the first of a two-game series as the Zips make the return trip to Birmingham in 2020.
The first of two bye weeks follows the Akron game before the Blazers return home to host in-state foe South Alabama on Sept. 21. UAB rounds out the month of September with a cross-divisional Conference USA game at WKU on Sept. 28.
October opens with a home game against Rice (Oct. 5), followed by a trip to San Antonio to play UTSA the following Saturday, Oct. 12. UAB is then back at Legion Field on Oct. 19 to host its final cross-division opponent Old Dominion before heading into its second bye week of the season.
The Blazers have two weeks to prepare for their contest with Tennessee which is scheduled for Nov. 2 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. UAB remains on the road the following week when it travels to Southern Miss on Nov. 9. UAB has won seven of the last eight meetings against the Golden Eagles.
UAB concludes its home schedule with back-to-back C-USA West matchups with UTEP (Nov. 16) and Louisiana Tech (Nov. 23), before ending the regular season on the road at North Texas (Nov. 30).
The Conference USA Championship Game is scheduled for Dec. 7 and it will once again be played on the home field of the team with the highest overall conference winning percentage. The Blazers won 2018 C-USA title by defeating Middle Tennessee 27-25 on the Blue Raiders’ home field, becoming the first road team in C-USA history to win the league title.
