HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) – Round three of the Regions Tradition Tournament in the books at Greystone. Many players surprised they were able to get in a full 54 holes to this point, but the weather held off Saturday and the tournament remains on schedule.
Steve Stricker is the current leader at -14. Stricker shot one over on the front, but rebounded strongly with three birdies on the final 6 holes, including 18.
“Yeah I didn’t hit the best of second shots, I hit a three wood and hit it really hard and tried to get it into the green. Kind of hit a little fin and roll it up there, but I was just trying to give myself a little 10 footer, tried to play it off the back of the green and I was able to get a good read from Billy Andrade, he showed me the line a little bit and I was able to knock it in,” said Stricker.
A group of golfers is in contention; David Toms, Bill Andrade and two-time Regions champion, Bernhard Langer, all -12 after three rounds. Langer is no stranger to closing things out on Sunday at Greystone.
“I love this golf course and I’ve been playing solid golf even last week, didn’t make many putts but finished 15 or whatever, but this is a golf course that I’ve done well on. I know how to play it so it’s just about execution and hopefully rolling in a few putts. The greens are beautiful so there’s no excuse. Just a matter of hitting the right putt on the right line,” said Langer.
Tomorrow’s final grouping will be Stricker, Langer and Toms. Tee times begin at 7 AM, leaders at 9 AM.
