Mountain Brook, Ala. (WIAT) — The college basketball world had to wait months after National Signing Day. But on Monday, the wait was over and Mountain Brook 5-Star Power Forward Trendon Watford made his college decision known.
Watford had been highly pursued by some of the blue bloods of college basketball, but his choice was narrowed down to four hats on his signing day. Memphis, Alabama, Indiana and LSU, each choice had its pros and cons.
Watford could stay in state and play for his childhood team Alabama, or follow countless big-name recruits and join former NBA star Penny Hardaway at Memphis. Then there was Indiana, a school his brother Christian starred at during his college basketball days, and finally the upstart program LSU under Head Coach Will Wade.
When the big moment came, Watford decided to choose LSU, and take his talents to Baton Rouge. Plenty of questions remain for LSU and Watford with the ongoing FBI probe into college basketball, but for the moment Watford isn’t worried about what could happen in the coming months, he made his college decision and said he was excited to get on campus and start his college basketball career.
