Bessemer, Ala. (WIAT) — The search for Bessemer City’s new head football coach is over, with a familiar name taking the helm.

Calera head coach Andrew Zow was announced as the 24th head coach in school history on Monday.

Zow replaces Derone Fagan, who was dismissed from the school district after it was discovering the team had been practicing outside the season. Fagan’s dismissal marks a continuation of rocky times at Bessemer City, Zow now becomes the fourth head football coach in four years.

Bessemer City finished 7-5 in 2018, losing to Opelika in the 2nd round of the state 6-A playoffs.

Zow led the Calera Eagles to a 1-9 record in 2018, after finishing 7-5, and 8-4 in the previous two seasons.
