Thompson Warriors send off to Auburn for 7A State Championship game

ALABASTER, Ala (WIAT)-- The Thompson Warriors are set to face Central-Phenix City for the 7A State championship. T

Tuesday morning, the parents, faculty, staff, and fans of the Warriors watched the team leave for Auburn.

"The team is about family and community," says football dad and local business owner Danny Sample.

The parade like send off was only the beginning. Several local businesses left Warriors Football signs out.

"It has been so exciting, and it has brought our community together in so many ways. Most of us small businesses around here either have children at the school or we had kids at the school," says Jennifer Rollo.

Rollo is cheer mom and has a hand painted sign in her boutique's window.

Sample's brewery has a yard sign out front representing his youngest son who is on the way to state.

The library and Alabaster Police Department plastered "Win State" on their signs.

The Warriors are 11-1 this season and are looking for their first title in 36 years.

"We had a long drought and some not exciting times," says Alabaster Mayor Marty Handlon," but I think that's why the community is so excited about it, because even when we were not doing well, 5000 people would pack Larry Simmons Stadium and cheer on the Warriors."

The community says they are hopeful the team will come home with the title.

"They deserve it. They've worked hard. They never give up, and we are going to win state," says Sara McGuire.

The Thompson High School Warriors will play the Central High School Red Devils out of Phenix City.

The Red Devils come in with a 13-0 record. The game is scheduled for Dec 5th at 7PM. It will take place at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama.
