Birmingham, Ala. (Auburn Athletics) – Auburn will pick up right where it left off in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll as the Tigers enter the 2019 season ranked No. 17, the association announced Tuesday morning.
Auburn, which concluded the 2018 season in the 17th spot with a 41-17 record, received 299 total points. The Tigers are one of 11 Southeastern Conference teams ranked by the association, marking the most teams in any league in the poll.
Last season, Auburn notched its fifth-straight 40-plus win season, which was fueled by a program-tying 15-0 start to the season. Those 15 straight wins to open the season for head coach Mickey Dean and company were the most in SEC history among first-year coaches. The Tigers ultimately advanced to their fifth-straight NCAA Regional and 14th in program history last year.
Auburn begins the 2019 season in the Sand Dollar Classic against Tennessee State next Friday at 2:00 p.m. The Tigers will begin their 33-game home slate on Feb. 14 against UAB as part of the Plainsman Invitational.
The 2019 USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll is voted on by 32 NCAA Division I head coaches, one representing each conference. The first regular-season poll will be published on Feb. 12.
