Alabama beats Auburn at Elevate the Stage

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama gymnastics used its highest score of the season to beat the Auburn Tigers and win its fifth-consecutive Elevate the Stage meet here in Birmingham Saturday night, by a score of 197.100-196.775.

It was the Crimson Tide’s second win over the Tigers in as many weeks and 126th in its last 127 meetings with Auburn. It was also Dana Duckworth’s 100th win as Alabama’s head coach.

“It’s amazing how fast time flies,” Duckworth said. “I’m honored to be able to lead my alma mater and to continue to learn and grow.”

Holding a solid lead going into the final rotation, Alabama tied its second-best floor exercise score of the season, going 49.450 to seal the victory. Senior Ariana Guerra closed out the meet with a 9.925, winning the event and clinching the meet. The Tide also going 9.900s from freshman Shallon Olsen and junior Shea Mahoney as well as a 9.875 from freshman Emily Gaskins.

“We’ve had that in us for so long, it was great to go out there and perform like we do in practice every day,” Duckworth said. “Now we just need to continue to build from here. There’s a lot of season left.”

The Tide opened the night with a 49.225 on the vault, led by a 9.925 for the win from Guerra and a career-best tying 9.875 from senior Abby Armbrecht. Olsen also added a 9.875.

On the uneven bars, junior Wynter Childers led the Tide a 49.150 team score after posting a 9.875, to win the event. The Tide also got a 9.850 from Guerra and a 9.825 from Gaskins.

Alabama kept things rolling with a season-best 49.275 on the balance beam, led by a career-best 9.925 from Olsen, a 9.900 from Childers and a 9.875 in the anchor spot from sophomore Lexi Graber.

Alabama closes out the regular season next Friday in Norman, Okla., against the No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The meet gets underway at 6:45 p.m. CT.
