The Homewood Patriots have a lot to build off from the 2017 season. They went 10-2 last year and they have a returning quarterback in Larkin Williams, one of the best in the 6A division.
However, the Patriots have a lot of new starters to plug in. 15 senior starters graduated in 2017. Yet the coach isn’t worried. He thinks this new group already plays like returning starters.
“They are just great leaders on the field and are coaches on the field,” coach Ben Berguson said. “There is a sense of comfort and calmness with Larkin at quarterback because he has so much experience.”
“The coaches look to you to set the tone in the film room and the weight room,” said Williams. “You are not the young guy. You can’t joke around anymore, so you have to lead by example basically.”
Homewood starts the season on Thursday, August 23 at home vs. Hueytown.
