BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Two-time All-United Soccer League forward Chandler Hoffman will join the Birmingham Legion Football club for their first season beginning January of 2019.
Hoffman is coming back to his roots. The Birmingham native made an appearance at Iron City for a press conference as the team’s first signee Thursday. With experience at the collegiate and professional level, Hoffman is excited to help kick start the new Magic City soccer team.
“Once I saw how successful they wanted the club to be, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. To have the opportunity to try and win a championship and build something special in my hometown, it was something I couldn’t pass up,” Hoffman said at the press conference.
Legion’s General manager Jay Heaps is also excited about Hoffman’s signing and sees the promise that he holds.
“As captain of his current team, we expect Chandler to be a leader both on and off the field in 2019,” Heaps said.
The Birmingham community seems to support of the new soccer team. The press conference had a large turnout, with fans ranging from youth soccer players to adults, everyone has high expectations.
Hoffman signed a pre-contract with the team, which will turn into a multi-year deal when he officially joins on January 1st.
