BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — With the title in tow, there comes expectations. From the fans, opposing teams, and even the polls. But for Piedmont, the reigning 3A state champions, they are happy to start the season the proverbial penthouse, but they know it’s all about where you are at the end of the season that matters most. Coach steve smith gives an answer you would expect on that thought.
“It’s a great honor and obviously something we are proud of that people across the state think highly of our program; but, we try to tell the kids every year that the polls in the beginning just a reflection really of what you have done in the past,” Coach Steve Smith says, “The great thing about high school football, and having a playoff like we do, as many teams as make it, at the end of the year a true champion is crowned by whoever survives the playoffs.”
The Bulldogs will begin their title defense against Georgia’s Cedartown High School on August 19th.
