Iron suffer first loss of AAF season

BRIMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Iron suffered it’s first loss of the AAF season Sunday against San Antonio. Running back Trent Richardson scored a touchdown with less than two minutes to play, the Iron’s successful 2 point conversion to follow cut the deficit to 12-11, but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome three second-half turnovers.

The Iron host Orlando, the leagues only remaining undefeated team, and head coach Steve Spurrier to Legion Field Saturday. March 9th.

Head Coach Tim Lewis addressed the media following the Iron loss:

“Bring you up to speed with our injuries… we have (OT) Brandon Greene who hurt his knee and ended up returning to the game. (OT) Korren Kirven hurt his knee as well and ended up returning. We’ll evaluate those guys. (WR) Tobais Palmer got dinged in the head and he ended up returning, so that was a good sign. (TE) Wes Saxton hurt his lower leg. He’ll get an X-Ray, and we’ll update you as the week goes.

Hats off to San Antonio and (head) Coach (Mike) Riley…he did a fantastic job bringing his team in here and preparing, getting his guys ready to go. A win on the road is very tough. We had a scramble against Atlanta last week, so I completely appreciate the job he did bringing his team here and knocking us off. I thought it was two evenly matched teams that both played 3-4 defenses and both tried to run the football and grind it out. It was a low scoring game, but a good one.
