Birmingham, Ala. (WIAT) — It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough as the Birmingham Iron remained unbeaten in the Alliance of American Football. With a 12-9 win over the Salt Lake Stallions.
The Iron offense struggled in the 1st half. A muffed punt by Iron return man Quan Bray, and a failed 4th down fake punt set the Iron down 9-0 heading into the locker room at halftime.
The tide of the game turned in the 3rd quarter, after Birmingham settled to punt, Defensive Back Jamar Summers raced down the field and ripped the ball from the Stallions return man. The ball rolled down the field where Samford alum, Shaheed Salmon recovered it in the end zone for the Iron Touchdown.
The Iron defense continued to dominate Salt Lake in the 2nd half, posting a shutout after Halftime. And in the 4th quarter Trent Richardson put Birmingham up for good with a short Touchdown to give the Iron its 12-9 lead.
