West Alabama Narcotics seized 26lbs of marijuana during traffic stop


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — 26 pounds of marijuana was seized during a traffic stop Friday afternoon.

According to a media release from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force and Hale Count Sherriff’s Office ended a two month long investigation Friday with two felony arrests.

The suspects were driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado when they were stopped at Exit 89 on Interstate 20/59 around 3:30 p.m. Two suspects were taken into custody: Edwin Vawter, 69, of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Charles Kentrell Williams, 29, of Moundville.

Approximately 26 pounds of marijuana and multiple Viagra pills were seized.

Williams was charged with one count of trafficking marijuana. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with a bond of $500,000.

Vawters was also charged with one count of trafficking marijuana. His bond was set at $1,000,000. He was also placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

The street value of the marijuana is approximately $78,000.
