BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Wenonah High School girls basketball team added some new jewelry to their collection on Monday as the team received their state championship rings.
Last season the team won a 4th consecutive 5A girls state title, and they did it while their coach, Emanuel Bell, battled lung cancer.
Bell has been undergoing treatments, but he was on hand today and told CBS 42 News how proud he is of his young athletes.
“That’s one, two, three, that’s four,” Bell said. “It’s big time, its big time. We’re going to try to go five in a row, which I think we should be able to get cause when you look at 5A, I think we’re going to be alright.”
