BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UAB Athletics unveiled its brand new track and field facility Monday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony. UAB President Ray Watts, athletics director Mark Ingram and the school’s track and field team were in attendance for the event.
The state-of-the-art facility is located next to BBVA Compass Field and shares a pressbox, concessions stand, bathrooms and ticket booth with the home of UAB soccer. The track will be capable of hosting a diverse mix of meets, including NCAA, conference and high school events.
The facility features an eight-lane Mondotrack surface, with each lane measuring 48 inches in width. Dual straights with discus, javelin and shot put throwing spaces are located in the infield, while a hammer cage and jumps are stationed just outside the oval track.
