Virginia grandmother scares off armed carjackers

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A grandmother fought back against armed carjackers in Richmond, sending them running.

Ruscena Schools was about to unload groceries from her car when four men approached her, demanding she get out and give them her car.

“I said, ‘Hold up. Do I know you? Is this a joke or something?’” Schools recalled. “I said, ‘I’m telling you now, I’m not getting out of my car. I work too hard.’”

Police say one of the suspects pointed a rifle at her. She then grabbed the gun, pushed the man back and got out of her car as her fiancé called police.

“I grabbed it and pushed it away from me and it hit him in the chest, fell back a little bit.”

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call 804-780-1000.
