Victim identified, suspect in custody in deadly Northport shooting


8/9 UPDATE: Investigators have arrested 20-year-old Deandre Deshawn Eaton in connection with the deadly shooting that left a 29-year-old man dead. 

The victim has been identified as David Bernard Tucker. 

Authorities believe Eaton and Tucker met in the street to conduct an illegal transaction but began arguing when Eaton pulled a handgun and shot the victim multiple times. 

The victim ran a short distance and fell in the front yard of a nearby residence. He was transported to DCH where he later died. 

Eaton has been charged with murder. He is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $150,000 bond. 

ORIGINAL: Northport Police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old man who was found outside of a house Wednesday morning.

Police say officers were called to the 1000 block of 14th Avenue on a report of a shooting shortly after 1:30 a.m. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to DCH Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. 

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was identified Wednesday afternoon as David Bernard Tucker of Northport. 

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes is currently investigating the shooting.
