Victim identified in Helena homicide linked to possible domestic altercation

HELENA, Ala. (WIAT) — Update (8/23): Helena police have released new information regarding Thursday’s deadly domestic altercation.

The victim, Beverly Harris, 45, was shot and killed and her husband Naylan Lamar Harris, 45, was arrested in connection to the killing.

According to police, Beverly Harris had been arrested the day before. She posted bail and was released. She went back to her residence and reportedly fired a handgun multiple times outside the home.

It was then She entered the home and her husband was also armed with a handgun. An altercation proceeded and Beverly Harris was shot and killed.

No other information has been released. Police have not said what the altercation was about and no charges have been brought on Naylan Lamar Harris.

The couple has a history of domestic incidents in the past, according to HPD.


Original (8/23): The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has announced that the victim in Thursday’s Helena homicide is 45-year-old Beverly Harris. Harris lived at the 8400 block of Shoreside Lane.

A call of a person shot went out around 11:04 a.m. Thursday and once law enforcement arrived, they found Harris deceased. She was pronounced dead at 11:24 a.m.
