According to reporters at WKMG, a news station in Daytona says a barge arrived around 11 a.m. Wednesday to help remove a panel at Halifax Marina to free the mother and her calf.

Officials with Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said while the panel is removed the plan is to isolate the manatees away from where the work is happening.

As far as how the two are surviving, officials say the manatee and her calf were eating lettuce that someone had thrown into the water, but Wildlife Officials say the marine mammals are surviving on algae.
