President Trump states he would not appoint Sessions if he had a ‘do-over’

US and World

President  Donald Trump weighed in over the weekend on his strained relationship with his former Attorney General and Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions. During an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, the president talked about how Sessions has been the only regret of his presidency so far.

Chuck Todd asked, “If you could have one do-over as president, what would it be?”

President Trump answered, “Well, it would be personnel”.

Todd followed up, asking “Who is it?”

Trump said, “I would say if I had one do-over, it would be, I would not have appointed Jeff Sessions to be attorney general. That would be my one.”

Todd added, “That’s your, in your mind, that’s your worst mistake?”

Trump replied, “Yeah, that was the biggest mistake.”

Back in 2017, Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation into Russian hacking of the 2016 presidential election. In November of last year, Sessions resigned as attorney general at the president’s request.
