BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — After throwing four touchdown passes and over 300 yards in UAB’s 31-20 win over Akron Saturday, Blazers quarterback Tyler Johnston III was named C-USA’s Offensive Player of the Week award and also earned a Manning Award Star of the Week.
In arguably the Blazers’ most important game of the season, they were able to ride the arm of Johnston III to score 31 unanswered points.
The Spanish Fort native finished the game 15-of-24 for 319 yards and tied his career-high with four touchdown passes as UAB moved to 2-0.
The sophomore was also one of eight college quarterbacks to receive a Manning Award Star of the Week.
LSU’s Joe Burrow, Texas’ Sam Ehlinger, Oregon’s Justin Herbert, North Carolina’s Sam Howell, Maryland’s Josh Jackson, Purdue’s Elijah Sindelar and USC’s Kedon Slovis were all named winners as well.
