UPDATE: The UA Board of Trustees voted to add metal detectors in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The university, along with other college stadiums, is following in the footsteps of the NFL and MLB stadiums. These walk-through detectors will be implemented at all gates of Bryant-Denny Stadium on game days beginning in September.

“Earlier today, our Board of Trustees voted to move forward with the implementation of metal detectors throughout Bryant-Denny Stadium,” said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. “It goes without saying that safety at our venues is of the utmost importance, and these security enhancements will help to ensure that our fans, student-athletes, coaches and personnel can enjoy their game-day experience in a safe environment.”

The Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama is expected to vote on the potential implementation of metal detectors outside of Bryant-Denny Stadium on Monday.

If implemented, the metal detectors would be used on game days beginning in September.

CBS 42 will bring you updates on the outcome of the vote.
