2 dead in Arkansas officer-involved shooting

STONE COUNTY, Ark. (KARK, WIAT) — An Arkansas deputy died and another person died in an officer-involved shooting in Stone County Thursday.

Authorities say one of the two people who died is a Stone County Sheriff’s deputy. Another person was injured.

Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division have been requested to investigate the incident, which occurred in southwest Stone County near the Van Buren County line.

While police have not released his name, State Senator Missy Irvin identified the deputy on Twitter as Mike Stephen.

The condition of the injured person is unknown. An investigation is ongoing.
