‘Toilet paper bandit’ arrested in Trussville

One man who was caught on tape stealing toilet paper this week has been arrested.

Ira Glover, 50, was arrested Tuesday and charged with trying to escape from police after being sought in a number of thefts involving toilet paper, all from the same store. According to police, Glover was taking the toilet paper to allegedly refill his own stock of goods at a janitorial business he owns.

Det. Ben Short of the Trussville Police Department said officers located Glover at 1 a.m. after he attempted to steal toilet paper from the Fresh Value Marketplace on Main Street.

Short said that after being confronted, Glover tried to escape on foot, but was quickly apprehended and arrested.

“He didn’t get far,” Short said.

Glover was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and reckless endangerment. Short said the department is seeking to charge him with the toilet paper theft.

On March 17, Glover was arrested after stealing toilet paper from Fresh Value. Short said that following his release, Glover was caught on camera stealing toilet paper again from the store this past Thursday and Monday.

In one video of the theft, Glover can seen with an unidentified female who was assisting him. Police are still searching for the woman. Anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the TPD at crimetip@trussville.org or at Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama.
