Thousands without power after storms roll through state


(WIAT) — UPDATE MARCH 28 5 AM: Alabama Power says Birmingham area outages are down to 3800 and eastern outages are down to 260. Crews continue to work to restore power to customers.

ORIGINAL MARCH 27: There are around 12,800 power outages around the state after the severe weather passed through Alabama on Monday evening, according to Alabama Power.

Of the outages, 9,600 are in the metro Birmingham area, and the rest are in various counties throughout the Eastern portion of the state.

Alabama Power has stated that they will have crews working to restore the areas experiencing outages throughout Monday night and into Tuesday morning.
