Thompson High School on lockdown UPDATE: Lockdown has been lifted

ALABASTER, Ala. (WIAT) — The following was released by the Alabaster Police Department:

UPDATE:  The lock down has been lifted, according to the Alabaster Police Department.

There was an anonymous phone call made to Thompson High School today where the caller advised of a possible threat of violence at the school. APD is on scene and is investigating the situation. At this time there is no credible evidence of any threat to students or staff. However, the school is currently under lock down as a precaution.

“It was really scary,” says Mikailey Levasseur, a Thompson student. “We had to hide in a closet for a couple of hours but it was really scary but that’s what happened.”

In spite of this incident, parents and extended family still feel that students at Thompson High School are completely safe.

“It’s heart wrenching to wonder if they’re going to be safe when they go to school,” says Kathy Chandler, a grandparent of a Thompson student. “But watch [faculty and staff] today, I think that they have everything under control and students at heart of keeping them safe (sic.).”

“I believe that they’re as safe here as anywhere,” adds John McMillan, a Thompson parent. “This could happen anywhere.”
