One organization is making a splash in the city by bringing the joy of performance art.Theater League, the group behind Broadway in Birmingham, aims to strengthen the community through the arts.
Broadway in Birmingham has brought Tony award-winning shows like Phantom, Once, and Wicked. There has been a line of sold-out shows at the BJCC, proving that the people of Birmingham are hungry for this type of theater.
“When you bring these stories and these performances that have done so well on that magical Broadway stage in New York into folk’s backyards,” said Director of Production Pete Weber. “It’s a very accessible experience that is cost effective and so appropriate, in many of cases, for the whole family.”
And while it’s cheaper to attend than a Broadway show in New York, Broadway in Birmingham is bringing in some serious revenue. The recent run of Lion King set records for the city. It grossed nearly $5 million and entertained more than sixty-thousand people at the BJCC.
There’s a lot more to come from Broadway in Birmingham. Whether you’re looking for a night of family fun or a night out on the town with friends, there’s truly something for everyone.
