BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — After a performance of the iconic musical production ‘The Wiz’ at the BJCC concert hall, some patrons who attended said the musical was ‘terrible’ and many are now demanding their money back.
“On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 30 as far as how bad it was,” Robert Christon-Walker said.
Christon-Walker performed in the show back in high school, and now says this show was the worst he has seen. It was advertised using video from a network production in 2015. Those who saw it, say the show did not come close to living up to the hype.
“The worst part about it was the amount of money that I wasted to come see a professional production,” Christon-Walker said.
Now some who paid upwards of $70 to be disappointed are filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau, hoping to get a refund.
“We normally don’t receive complaints like this, so this is kind of an isolated incident,” Ande Kral, BBB communications manager, said. “Better Business Bureau and I think most people are just mad they didn’t get what they were expecting.”
Late Monday, the group that brought the show to town, American Entertainment Group, issued an apology saying they “did not cast the performers, produce, direct or provide any artistical direction to the production.”
None the less, the show left attendees wanting more.
“Any time there’s a chance to see ‘The Wiz’, I want to see ‘The Wiz.’ I’m still waiting to see ‘The Wiz’ after this past production that came here because it was just not good at all,” Christon-Walker said.
