Suspect steals vehicle, leads police on short pursuit in Homewood


HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE (8/28/19) The suspect has been charged.

A man is facing multiple charges after he stole a vehicle and led police on a short pursuit Sunday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., Homewood police were dispatched to a possible theft in the 100 block of Woodmont Drive, according to Sgt. John Carr with Homewood Police Department. Once officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle.

The suspect led police on a short pursuit before crashing into a building between Omega Tire and the Marathon gas station on Greensprings Highway. The suspect then fled inside of the building and was taken into custody.

The vehicle was stolen earlier from Samford’s campus, according to Carr. The suspect is facing multiple charges that are still pending.
