SPRINGVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — A suspect has been released from the hospital and arrested on charges after an incident where he was shot by police, according to Lt. Jon Riley with ALEA.

Steele Police Department attempted to pull over a vehicle for several violations, including reckless driving and eluding police, according to Riley. The suspect reportedly fled and drove through Asheville, where he ended up crashing into the rail at the I-59 South on-ramp at exit 156.

An officer attempted to approach the suspect’s vehicle when the driver allegedly backed up rapidly and came close to hitting the officer. The officer fired shots from their weapon that hit the suspect in the leg, and the suspect crashed into the guardrail once again.

The suspect, now identified as Nicholas Power of Anniston, was taken to the UAB Hospital closest to Springville for treatment, and upon release was charged with attempting to elude and reckless driving. At this time, police and the State Bureau of Investigation are also discussing charges for attempted murder.
