Study: Americans will spend more but participate less this Valentine’s Day

(WIAT) — Valentine’s Day is just a little over a week away, and love is in the air, or is it? According to the National Retail Federation, just 51 percent of adults plan to celebrate. Spending for Valentine’s Day is still on the rise, though with Americans planning to spend an average of $162 on loved ones.

Total sales are expected to top $20 billion this year. The NRF found that for those skipping out on Valentine’s day, they think it’s over-commercialized, do not have anyone to celebrate with or they are just simply over it.
