CLANTON, Ala (WIAT) — The storms that rolled through central Alabama on Monday left damage in downtown Clanton on 2nd avenue north.
“I see the whole building. The wind and everything just pushing it out towards the road. It was crazy,“ Brady Watson who works at Rustique Relics on 2nd Avenue North said.
The tin roof of a building flipped off and landed in the street. Luckily, officials said no one was hurt.
“When it finally calmed down and then the rain kept coming down for 10 minutes,“ Watson said. “It was just heavy, you couldn’t even see the buildings across the street because the rain was so thick. Right after that all cleared up, I walked over to the gym to see if everyone was ok and everyone was already outside from the Feed and Seed and Barber shop.“
“It’s one of those things in central Alabama, you never know what the weather is going to be from one hour to the next this time of the year,“ Randall Kelley from Clanton said.
People in the area said the shops in this building have leaks, but are just happy everyone is ok.
“I didn’t think anything like it couldn’t happen in little Clanton, Alabama but sure enough it did. Southern hospitality has been great. People have just come together,“ Watson said.
