FULTONDALE, Ala (WIAT) — Saturday’s severe weather threat prompted the local Boy Scout Troup in Fultdondale to come open the Walkers Chapel Rd. storm shelter.

Signs on the shelter say the structure can withstand up to 250 mph winds.

The shelters capacity is 400 people.

Jefferson County EMA Director Jim Coker says the main concern is for people to remain weather aware into the night and for people to know where they can go to seek shelter.

Coker also says to have multiple ways to get warnings.
