State Superintendent Dr. Mackey talks about expectations for upcoming school year

Teachers from across the state are in Birmingham for a professional development conference.

CBS 42 got a chance to talk with State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey about what parents can expect in the upcoming school year.

“Our whole state is moving forward,” Dr. Mackey said. “I think there is a new commitment to excellence and we want to focus on outcomes across the state and to raise expectations for our students, but that is really all about the school level, about quality principals and committed teachers who are doing the work every day.”

This will be Dr. Mackey’s first full year as state superintendent.
